Tail-Streaming For An Attack (Sterna paradisaea)

These Arctic Terns took to the air frequently when I was on Inner farne Island. At one point I stood alone with no members of the public present and they took flight. I was in the midst of a large flock then they gained height. Arctic Terns are definately the most aggressive of the Tern species on the Island. The Common Terns are happy to rest and let the Arctic Terns do all the aggression. Sandwich Terns clustered in a tight flock were not far away from the Arctic and Common Terns.

There may be Common Terns amongst them. The flight action was very fast!!!
