Looks like you're doing a fine job! Poor bird looks cooolllllddddd! (I got the same camera for Christmas, lots to learn with it.)
 
Thanks, this was a bit of snow we had, today it was 49 degrees F here today, no snow or ice left. We can get snow and cold one day and the above the next.
Yes it will take a bit of use to get the most out of the camera, I am using the Canon 70-300 mm USM IS lens with the camera.
