The final walk? (Bad thumbnail) (Phasianus colchicus)

The rural sbirdlife here is shaped by man. Mass breeding and release of pheasant and other game birds and a brief and presumably pleasant life before the shoot. We got home after this birding trip to find a brace of pheasant hanging from the garage door- a present from a well intentioned hunter.
Habitat
Farmland and woods.
Location
Blacktoft Sands bird reserve, Liconshire, UK
Date taken
28th January, 2007
Scientific name
Phasianus colchicus
Equipment used
Canon 30D, 100-400 zoom
This looks awful in thumbnail, Tim.. But opening it was a pleasant surprise. Very beautiful image with a sharp pheasant and lovely blurry background. And the tree really makes the shot. Brilliant minimalism, Tim!! Dont judge a shot by its thumbnail.. :) Bad present for a birder.

The composition is superb, it conveys a feeling of surprise, for both of you .. well taken Tim!

Nice one Tim, i saw a Pheasant escape a shoot up North Norfolk a few weeks ago was thrilled they missed. Cheers

A beautiful shot! I really like the way the bronze iridescence on the breast is highlighted.

Your story explains why there are not more photos of pheasants posted - seems people need to get in fast to get a photo while the bird lives. I hope this one found a spot to hide out, and is still living quietly, somewhere in the countryside.

The shimmering colours of that bird was a "pheasant surprise"! I like the composition revealing the openness of the landscape. Your story give support to my theory that life is surrelistic in nature...
