I have never seen a mallard in the surf before. And he was eating baby surf clams. I though it was some ocean loving duck I have never seen before but I curly tail feathers and white neck ring gave him away.

Great capture and one I am glad you shared dak. I can not recall ever seeing a Mallard in the surf either. Looks as if the gull is having the same reaction (lol). TFS!

His head looke black from my POV which is what threw me. I have some closeups of a mallard's head where in some his head appears green, and in some purple, depending on the angle relative to the incident light. So now add black to the list
