Wallcreeper butterfly drop

Wallcreeper butterfly drop (Tichodroma muraria)

When wallcreepers drop off a cliff, they typically bounce with closed wings, drop like a stone, and then plooff! open their wings in the classic butterfly pose with legs stretched down. I managed to get almost a full frame shot of this female doing just that (but it took me 1500 photos before I got it right ;-)

thanks all for your kind comments.

My friends here (and blog readers) know that I am somewhat obsessed with wallcreepers. It took me two years of hard work to see my first one (including 100s of trips to the gorge behind my house which was claimed to be "the best spot in Tirol" without success).
I have had the honour of being at three nests this year and blab to everyone I can find about how great this bird is.

Almost as cool as Alpine Accentors...
