Why they're called "waxwings".

I found a few tufts of loose feathers; a cedar waxwing seems to have had a run-in with something. The little red tips are interesting. It looks almost like the bird dipped its feathers oh-so-delicately in paint.

Lovely to see these. I think they refer to the wax seals used in the past. Have seen them used as a kid. Looks like you can still buy sealing wax today (just googled wax seals).
