Ecuador bird photography mid September - start of October

Yeah, when self-organizing a trip prices are very dependent on location. However all pre-organized birding trips are really expensive regardless of location in my experience. You're right though, it is specialized.

Ecuador bird photography mid September - start of October

Thanks, I already saw your report. I'm afraid $280 dollar a day is not really an option. Might be cheap compared to other options but still way too much. On a sidenote, I'm quite baffled by birding trip prices in general, 5000$ often doesn't even cover two weeks. I guess the average birder has...

Ecuador bird photography mid September - start of October

I guess Caiman is more focused on the general public, not necessarily birds. There's quite a bit of info on Google. Lodging is in shared cabin, that's probably why it's cheaper. As for the tap water, apparently there's a lake nearby to swim in

Ecuador bird photography mid September - start of October

I can't really justify spending several thousands for just one week, however I don't have to please a GF and I guess I'm a bit more used to primitive accomodations (went to Arfak Mountains, Indonesia) According to their website these are the costs for Caiman Lodge: Costs: $240 US per person...

Ecuador bird photography mid September - start of October

Thanks for the help so far. I understand the Amazon might not offer as many birds compared to other places, however I've always wanted to visit the Amazon and the adventure is also part of the fun, as are the other animals and flora/fauna. What about the Caiman Lodge, it does seem a bit more...

Ecuador bird photography mid September - start of October

Hi, I'm self-organizing a trip to Ecuador focused on bird photography. I think I should be fine doing it myself but a companion would be welcome. The itinerary isn't really set yet but it will probably be focused on hummingbirds (Mindo), also I'd like to visit the Amazon forest, but I'm open for...

Which place to visit for good bird photography oppertunities?

Thanks for the help. Ecuador sounds like the best choice. I would love to visit the Galapegos for diving and birding as well, but it seems I'll have to rob a bank before doing that x) Belize doesn't look bad, but I'm afraid I'm a bit spoiled after diving in Indonesia, Raja Ampat. And it's...

Which place to visit for good bird photography oppertunities?

Hi all, Last year I went to Sulawesi and West Papua for birding. In general Sulawesi had very good oppertunities for bird photography, especially the Kingfishers which were not shy at all. Light was quite bad but there was often time to use a tripod so those pictures turned out quite well. In...

    Diving/birding combotrip Sulawesi/West Papua november 2018

Hello all, I'm an avid photographer, interested in nature both above and underwater. West Papua and Sulawesi happens to have the best of both worlds, so I'm planning to visit it next year, for a month. As things are quite expensive in said area I'm looking for other people especially for the...

    Digiscoping worth it?

Thanks for the many replies! I already have the Panasonic 100-400, and I think I have managed to take quite a few decent images(https://www.flickr.com/photos/142773372@N06/). There are times though when you can't get close, for example when there's a high vantage point or a lake. I have seen...

    Digiscoping worth it?

Hello, I've been photographing birds now for a year, using m43 equipment. Often, when in the field, birds are too far away to capture them well. I've been thinking about buying a scope and trying some digiscoping, I've looked through one once and I was very impressed! However most pictures I...

    West Papua

Yes I did read your report, several times! Sounds like you had a great time, so many crazy species! Just wondering, what area did you like best? Also, I'm mainly a photographer, not really a birder, but I'm tempted to invest in a scope. How useful is one in jungle conditions? I might take a...
