    February Moths - 2014

ustella makes it a trio of new garden moths already this year! Slightly less about last night despite milder temperatures, it was 9 degrees this morning at 7am but it was very blustery and we had had showers during the night. 7 moths was better than a kick up the bum and I managed to bag a...

    February Moths - 2014

Yesterday, after the previous nights trapping efforts a quick scout around the garden added 4 Dotted Border's which had alighted on the garden fences about 20 feet from the trap location. This goes to show that it is always worth checking slightly further away from where you are trapping. Also...

    Your moth trap set up

I'm just going on personal experience that is all, attending traps i've witnessed many moths keep flying at the light and then escaping even using the robinson. I now have replaced both clear cones for metal ones and the results have improved. Sunlight is a different UV spectrum hence why they...

    Your moth trap set up

It depends how much of your catch you want to retain. I disagree with the clear top and changed to a spray painted black one, primarily for the reason that with a clear top, the moths can still see and be attracted to the light, thus fluttering around trying to reach it and on instances...

    Daft Question

I've on numerous occasions been 'caught' moth trapping by police. The funniest time was when two women pulled up in a smart police car, commenting on my net that I was holding, apparently it looked like a spade and that they thought we were burying a body.

    October moths 2010

Had a trip out to Grays Chalk Quarry in South-west Essex the other night, perfect conditions, a little breezy but nice and overcast. The amount of moths was slightly disappointing between 4 traps initially (they should have been piling in given the conditions!), but on inspection of the last...
