Indigo Bunting or Blue Grosbeck, georgia usa today

I showed this picture, (which I think is an Indigo Bunting), to a friend who suggested that it might be a Blue Grosbeak. I don't know much about either, except that they are both known to be in my area.

I've noticed the front of the wings, (median coverts?),on Great Blue Herons I've seen are raw. Does anyone know if this is old age or why it happens?

    Utah, USA falcon

Thanks. The "weak moustache" that the bird has would also indicate the Taiga race.

    Utah, USA falcon

This shot was taken yesterday in Ogden, Utah. I think it is a Merlin Falcon. Sibley's Guide lists Merlin-Prairie and Prairie Falcon as two different populations. Any clarification on the ID would be appreciated.

    young bird in Atlanta

I took these pictures in my backyard near Atlanta, Georgia, USA, today. I normally see Starlings and Gackles with simular shaped beaks, but I don't think this is either of those. Does anyone know what it is? Jim

Nikon ED Nikkor 70-300 1.4-5.6 D Lens Converter Wanted

Tamron 2x SP works! I have a D70 and the 70-300 lens. I bought a Tamron 2x SP today and took some pictures of a mockingbird, attached, with it. It autofocuses and works with my remote shuter release.

    Advice on Nikon D80/18-200 vr

I have tried several lenses and found that for a clear image you need at least a 300 mm lens. I think a fixed focal length gives a sharper image than a zoom. I am using a 70-300 nikon on a D70, and find that most times using a tripod with a remote release works best. You can see a full review...
