    Kowa BDII-XD - september 2019

Indeed a typo, on the page before the spec sheet the close focus is stated in meters (underneath the flower symbol). I haven't handled Kowa binoculars before, but just the look of the focus wheel doesn't strike me as comfortable - all those metal(?) pins. Anyone have experience with this? But...

    Gitzo Gimbal head

Hi, An Arca-swiss style plate (included with the head) is needed to fit it on the Gimbal. Here is a video of the connection to the Swarovski version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6itWfnucOV0

Any new spotting scopes on the horizon?

Considering that there are no teasers, anouncements or even rumours going around, I would not expect anyone here to know the answer to this question, but it is meant more as a speculation topic anyway. Swarovski bringing out their ATX/STX/BTX, Zeiss conjuring up both the Gavia and Harpia...

    Swarovski PTH vs Gitzo GHFG1

I'll give an initial impression and revisit it in a year or so. my tripod: manfrotto 055xprob previous head: manfrotto 498rc2 current scope: nikon ed50 + 27xds (overkill now, but bigger scope pending) disclaimer: I haven't tested it out in the field yet, only indoors. Build quality: sturdy...

    Swarovski PTH vs Gitzo GHFG1

Yes the main difference I think is that the swaro can toggle the fluid resistance completely off, while the gitzo claims it's an all-in-one package, that is: if you rotate the head swiftly the resistance will automatically decrease. Or to quote: "The Fluid Gimbal Head cartridge also features an...

    Swarovski PTH vs Gitzo GHFG1

Does anyone here use either of these heads, particularly the PTH? Specifically for people using the PTH: do you find the function to switch off the fluid resistance a must-have, or do you rarely use it, and if you don't, is it set to resistance or no resistance by default?

    New scope from Zeiss...

Haven't had the chance of seeing one IRL, but I noticed they added an AR feature to their new catalog; if you download the Zeiss AR app, you can get a nifty 3D image of the scope (and binoculars), with more information about the lens-systems, glass-types and such
