    Thanks for the suggestions. The picture was taken in Southeast Texas. I will try to get a better picture next time.

    Red-Tailed Hawk?

    I took the horrible attached picture with a phone. I believe it might have been a Red-Tailed Hawk. I happened to see it when it flew off and noted dark checkering/bands on its wings even from a distance and with nearsightedness.

    ebird android source code

    Unfortunately it appears to be closed source and I can't find any license information. However, it appears you can get an API key to query the website which returns data in JSON. Maybe you might find that useful.
