    Recording butterflies in Ayrshire

Just in case the recorder void for Ayrshire has been filled, spotted another Holly Blue on Sat 3/8, this time in Ayr (beer garden of Fox & Willow). Just what I had been hoping for, a local sighting for the second year in succession, and hopefully a clear sign of establishment in these parts...

    Painted Lady influx from SE

On Friday, I counted 8 on the Ayrshire Coast within about 2 or 300 yards - great to see the invasion has taken hold up here - I never spotted a single lady North of the border last year.

    Annual, European butterfly magazine

Positive stuff then, looking forward to the hallway thump.... (Though apart from the bigger, sexier stuff, I won't have much of a clue of what anything is - every day's a learning day and all that jazz)

    Annual, European butterfly magazine

Thanks for the heads up - I've got the 2 of them on the way. Have you managed to have a thumb through yet, Andy?

    Recording butterflies in Ayrshire

Hi folks - anyone record here? I've tried the Ayshire section of BC but it seems out of date and possibly defunct - I can't see where I can record to?? Last week I spotted/photographed a female Holly Blue in Alloway, a dime a dozen down south of course, but pretty sure this is something special...

Golden Eagles in the Lake district

We'll agree to disagree John - this is shades of grey, and as I've stated I'm not going to get into an argument, or engage in willy-waving. 'Moving away' is a negative reaction to an adverse stimulus - if this causes an interruption in hunting eg. then there's a resultant negative effect on...

Golden Eagles in the Lake district

I'm not getting into an argument - my view is based on personal observation, and firmly reflects professional opinion by experienced researchers. I'd also add that the Cuillin ridge isn't exactly optimum 'eagle country', as is so frequently suggested. Your last comment is just inflammatory...

Golden Eagles in the Lake district

I do wish otherwise, but this is a point I'm inclined to agree with - I 've watched the effect of humans on the behaviour of these birds, including whilst surveying them, and in general, they are exceptionally sensitive to human disturbance - imo far more so than any other UK raptor (at least...

    Eagles over Ronda

Well, that's a disappointment (of sorts) - given the thread title, I was expecting some excitement over a pair of white-tails in Wales - whoops.

Autumnwatch 2016 to be broadcast live from RSPB reserve Arne

He very well could be - I gave him some aquarium advice a few years back on another forum (comes across as a really nice bloke too).

    RSPB Loch Leven

Good numbers of Osprey this weekend - 9 yesterday, 6 today. Also Greenshank showing well. Good for butterflies too - abundant Peacock & Painted Lady on Carden hide trail, and jumping with Small Copper.
