    7D Raw Noise

Keith, I was hoping a 7D-user would respond. See, we still need the British for something! I suspected or hoped LR3 might make some difference. I've not only got a 7D and scope but a new PC, the latter specifically because the old one didn't have the horses for LR3. What a project: I...

    7D Raw Noise

Dear Folks, I just got my first look at my refurb' 7D's pictures in Lightroom 2.7, and am a little disappointed. I'm now reading that some 7D copies have noise issues. I've uploaded a 1:1 crop of a typical tern-against-blue-sky: 1/2000 f/10, ISO 400 with 100-400mm at 400mm The left 2/3 is...

    Combined Manual-Auto Discovery

Combined MF-AF Roger Joel and Richard, This target is about 3" square from 66 ft away at 50mm x 20 x 1.6. 1/125, f/5.6, ISO 400, AV Mode. My understanding from Clay as well was that AF isn't supposed to make that huge a correction, but as you can see, here AF-ing on the eyepiece image did...

    Combined Manual-Auto Discovery

Wondering if others have had similar findings: Newbie's new gear: - Optics: Kowa 774 (straight) + DA10 adapter + Canon 50mm Mk1 f1.8 + 30D. - Support: Carbon fiber tripod + pan head + D3 H-bracket In two days at the park, I haven't gotten good focus or contrast on squat, whether a bird or a...

    Some Kowa Questions

I'm not sure I'd get a better response from Kowa themselves, or will. In other words, you can't have everything! 'Many dreams with a limited budget and limited experience. I do like the immediacy and burst rate of a DSLR, but I like metal bodies there - gotta' have video too. Get a newer...

    Some Kowa Questions

Hey folks, I'm trying to decide between a Kowa 66X/7XX and the Swaros. The digiscope "show" I went to only had a Swaro rep, showing how their DCA mount worked - really slick and simple. His tripod had their sliding rail mount, and we put a 50mm on my Canon 30D and just slipped it over the...

Q: Should I buy a scope and camera or a long lens??

Newbie's response - For quickness, I'll take my 100-400 with a 1.4x. Trouble is, with lenses, long is never long enough; the tree is just too high, there's too much tick-ridden brush/grass in the way, or they've shut down beach access. The last happened to me a year ago. I didn't know 'til...

    Keeping Ticks Away!

Thanks to all respondents; this is mixed news. 'Good in that I sprayed my pants down with Permethrin, not DEET, and know where to get those socks I'd vaguely heard of somewhere. (The darn chiggers are already out here.) No one likes using these toxins, so 'might as well go with the one that...

    Keeping Ticks Away!

Hello! I am looking to buy a hunting or throw-on blind, but I'd like some advice from people who use such in the field: do ticks climb on these things, and how do you keep them off? Soak them in DEET spray, like I've done with my pants? Are there any other anti-tick measures you folks use?
