    Sabine's gull

I agree about the swell, the times I had birds 'perfectly' framed in the viewfinder, press the shutter, the boat rolls, lo and behold you get just a wing tip, lol. The gull was taken with a Canon 1D Mk2 and a Canon 300 mm f2.8 lens. The image, I'm sure you've guessed is heavily cropped.

    Sabine's gull

I was on the RSPB Skua cruise out of Bridlington today, saw Sooty Shearwater, Great Skua and a Sabine's gull. The gull kept dropping into the chum trail with the other gulls. I've attached three images of the gull, sorry but the qualities poor, but I thought they were worth showing. It was a...

    Err 99 ??

Err 99 on my Canon 1D Mk2 meant a new shutter after 15,500 activations. I hope its not that.

    Birdwatching Monthly or similar?

Yes, I think this came out in the mid to late 70s, I collected a few myself but not the full set, and they've long since gone. Dave

    Sparrowhawk

Thanks for your replies everyone. As an addition to this a couple of hours later my wife saw a Sparrowhawk fly over the garden chasing a Starling with a second Starling in immediate pursuit. Dave

    Sparrowhawk

Can anyone confirm is this a male juvenile Sparrowhawk? I decided to do a bit of garden bird photography today, camera and long lens set up on a tripod, I was just sat on a garden bench, no hide. This bird entered from the right and flew down the garden, it was so low, I was looking down on it...

    Canon 1D Mk2 problem

I wonder if anyone has come across the problem/fault before on the 1D Mk2? Its intermittent and has happened twice in the past 4 or 5 weeks. I took three photographs this morning, but the camera would not display them on the rear LCD screen. All power was on and everything showed A ok on all the...

A Gannet with a touch of Photoshop alchmy

I've recently been photographing Gannets at Bempton cliffs, and like most photographers I've always a large number of photographs that need deleting for what ever reason. In the first photograph for instance the Gannet's left wing is just clipped, I find this so annoying. So I decided to try...

A day at Bempton and a Gannet surprise

On Saturday I spent the day at Bempton cliffs, it was a sunny morning with a breeze at the cliff tops, which got the birds up, it was a pleasure to watch the Fulmars riding the updraughts, and a young Gannet doing the same. As the day progressed it turned overcast, most of the other people had...

    Calibrating monitor and printer

Hi Austin, I use Colour Vision Spyder2Pro to calibrate my monitor and as soon as I did so, every thing else just dropped into place, I don't profile the printer other than making the necessary selections through Photoshop. What I get out of the printer is almost what I see on the screen, I don't...

    Aircraft & Sprawk

I think most people probably agree that the earth is going through a climate change called global warming, as it has done so for millions of years in the past, whether man alone is responsible is debatable. Today I was working in the garden and as always you can't fail to see the contrails of...
