    Lens choice 7d mk1 ( or maybe mk2 )

    Just a thought.. Canon's 400 mm f5.6 prime has the best reputation for being sharp as a tack, but remember it does not have IS so harder to hand hold

    Good news. I had the same issue and found the same solution. You should find the MkII a good jump up, especially the ISO and auto-focus.

    I agree with Malcolm, try a reset. However, just one more point: I had similar inexplicable problems, things not working, screen, focusing etc. It started a month after I bought a non genuine cannon battery. Started using a genuine battery and the issues went away. Don't ask me to explain why...

    Anyone using 7D mk1?

    I used a 7Di for a number of years and it was a good camera for wildlife but it had it's weaknesses. It had good focusing but the noise at high ISO was bad. At 400-600 ISO it was ok but from 1000 on it was very poor. I went for a second hand 1DIV which was a massive jump up. I do own a 7DII...

    Welcome! Sparrows are always the hardest - try the big ones first - birds of prey, Eagles, Kites, Vultures etc - all exciting birds to watch

    It is very unusual for a wild bird to behave like this - especially if a member of the Covid family. Two possibilities spring to mind - it could be a bird that has got used to humans - an escapee maybe or the bird is unwell.
