    France, Haut-Rhin--Unidentified song

Hello, I heard a bird singing from a bush or low tree by a canal, next to grass fields and sewage ponds with reeds (exact location: 47.645220, 7.127204) on 23rd March. I attach two recordings (only applied normalisation -3dB). It sounds like it should be an easy one but I cannot think of it...

    Larus gull in north-eastern France

Many thanks Lou and Thibaut for your replies. Very useful to know what to look for next time! I'll submit it as YLG/Caspian indicating that it's more likely a YLG.

    Larus gull in north-eastern France

Thank you both. I'm still not sure I can exclude YLG. The jizz is not super typical of Caspian like in your photo, Alexander (e.g. raised posture). So unless someone else can give reasons to exclude YLG (or Caspian), I'll leave it as Larus sp.

    Larus gull in north-eastern France

Hello, I saw this Larus gull in Haut-Rhin, France (47°45'52.8"N 7°10'06.5"E) with >30 yellow-legged gulls. It seems to me that it could be showing some shape features of Caspian gull (longish legs and primary projection, pear-shaped head, longish bill, ventral budge, prominent chest, etc.) but...

Griffon or Rüppell's Vulture? - Andalucia, Spain

Thanks Jon! I forgot to say the two birds were among many Griffon Vultures and at the time I didn't really pay attention whether there could be Rüppell's in the group. It's only when reviewing eBird that I saw that several Rüppell's had been seen very close to Sierra Crestellina (e.g. 3 on this...

Griffon or Rüppell's Vulture? - Andalucia, Spain

Two birds seen on 8-11-2017 at 5pm at Sierra Crestellina (36°27'57.0"N 5°17'03.9"W) I am familiar with Griffon but not with Rüppell's. Although the brown abdomen and whitish face do not seem right for Rüppell's, the lack of contrast on the underwings and the white band on the front of the...

    France--PACA--Alpes-Maritimes *Hippolais* Warbler

I suspected that pictures would not be enough to confirm ID. On autumn migration in the area, Melodious is very rare, and Icterine rare - or unnoticed, some birds having been caught at a ringing site nearby. Many thanks to all for your replies so far!

    France--PACA--Alpes-Maritimes *Hippolais* Warbler

I think this bird is an Icterine Warbler mainly because of the pale on the wings but I don't have any experience with this species (and very little with Melodious). Are these pictures enough to confirm (or not) ID? Unfortunately I haven't seen the primary projections correctly and don't have...
