Looks like it's well worth investigating! Many thanks :t:

Tried that this year but with peanut butter....... It was always going to be a long shot though! ;)

Many thanks for all the great ideas. Unfortunately the Cairngorm area really is a must unfortunately (just now) as we have other plans in that area too. The 'hide' idea is also a possibility, but the thought of your very own ones visiting your rented cottage is very appealing! Won't be...

Sounds perfect. Will definitely keep it in mind. Location a bit further West than I'd like, as I'm also hoping to be recording the various Crossbill sp too. Cheers for the very quick response though! 😁👍🏻

Hi folks. I'm wondering if anyone out there knows of any self-catering accommodation in the Cairngorms area that regularly gets Pine Martin visiting? Just looking to advance book for our next Summer visit. Many thanks Dougie.

Mods; Any chance of moving this to the appropriate forum?

    Scottish Birds 1

And, yes I'd second the idea of reporting the sighting to the local recorder, as it's def an interesting location and date for a Velvet!

    Scottish Birds 1

No. the sleeping one is indeed a Male Velvet, and the other is a fem Common Scoter.

    Tundra or Taiga bean goose

Both the geese in question are Tundra. They lack the Swan like neck proportions of Taiga, and the bill looks too delicate. Bill pattern also favours Tundra (mostly back with orange band near the tip).

Cheers Martin. Still have Tuesday free, so may have another bash at Albufera then. Such amazing looking birds.

    Mallorca 2015

Just found this thread as I'm chilling in my apartment at Club Pollentia Resort near Alcudia. The Honey Buzzards are still well and truly around, as I managed to photograph 8 near the tower above the first viewpoint on Cap Formentor this morning. Best views I've ever had of this sp too...

    Cuban Warbler April 2014

Many thanks for all the replys. I just didn't realise they could be this grey! The structure etc do look good, so a valuable lesson learned. Cheers again, Dougie.

    Cuban Warbler April 2014

Cheers for the help folks. As for Oriente Warbler, there were a couple about but nothing like as plain as this (they are quite stunning birds!) There was a singing male Yellow Warbler nearby, but surely this is just a bit too grey? Thanks again for the replys, Dougie.

    Cuban Warbler April 2014

Anyone any idea on this warbler, seen very briefly at Cayo Coco on Cuba last month. All I can add is that it's underparts were all a dirty grey, but it did have a vivid yellow vent/undertail area. Cheers Dougie.
