Least Sandpiper? Today at Medmerry RSPB, West Sussex, UK

Yeah I did think it seemed off for a dunlin but I was also not confident it was the Least. As you say I couldn't pick out the leg colour too well because of where it was, it was completely in the shadow.

I saw your pics of it, they're excellent mate. Will have to have a look at tide times and possibly go back on Tuesday.

Least Sandpiper? Today at Medmerry RSPB, West Sussex, UK

I appreciate the confirmation that it is indeed the Least, I still feel like I'm going to go back for seconds for some better views. Thanks all! Evan

Least Sandpiper? Today at Medmerry RSPB, West Sussex, UK

Because...? It's been hanging out with a single dunlin, it's obviously smaller than the dunlin... the bird was in the shade the entire time so the leg colour was always going to be darker than what it should be. I'm not happy with the views of the bird anyway so I'll happily go back and actually...

Least Sandpiper? Today at Medmerry RSPB, West Sussex, UK

I was finally somewhat in the area to go and have a look at the Least Sandpiper that's been in West Sussex for a week or so now. I was told it hadn't been seen for 15 mins and I did see a smaller looking sandpiper that I did think looked like the least. I could not get a detailed look at it due...

Candidate Semipalmated Plover, today on Fuerteventura.

Hi all, a friend of mine is currently on Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands. He photographed this plover on one of the beaches and it does show a fair few pro semipalmated features such as webbing on both feet, a quite thin black chest band, reduced supercilium just above the eye and extending...

    Ring-billed gull in Birmingham UK?

It's a normal European Herring Gull. Ring-billed gull is a little bigger than our Common Gulls and they have yellow legs, a shorter yellow bill compared to Herring and are more dumpy or stocky looking. Ring billed gull is also quite rare. I think that the 'ringed' affect on the bill might just...

    Yellow legged Gull ?

Quite obvious black band on p5 there which can only point to Caspian.

    slavonian grebe? Eyebrook Reservoir 20/3/25

I feel like Photo 2 shows quite a classic Slavonian grebe?

    slavonian grebe? Eyebrook Reservoir 20/3/25

Yes, I believe Slavonian in the first 2 pics, then the next 3 are Great Crested and the last pic is indeed a Ringed plover, note the lack of yellow eyering and the orange at the base of the bill which is absent in Little Ringed. Evan

Focusing on finding a Baltic Gull!

Thanks! They are definitely ID'able without a leg ring as seen in the blog post I sent but if you come across one with a leg ring I'm sure that would really seal the deal.

Focusing on finding a Baltic Gull!

Now that the Caspian Gull season has almost finished, I am turning my attention to trying to find an acceptable candidate of Baltic Gull this summer. I came across this excellent blog post by Thomas Miller and it goes into great detail about ID'ing 1st summer Baltic Gulls; see here -> The Baltic...
