    GHF 2Way gitzo head

    Thanks John, this is a set up I have used on the GFH2W and my Manfrotto MVH500AH. On both heads, with an extended plate fitted, room for my hand under the ATX85 focus ring is limited which I find uncomfortable so I make do with max. counterbalance and tightening the tilt up a notch to balance.

    I use an ATX85 on the Gitzo GFH2W and find it perfectly smooth and stable with the minimum amount of counterbalancing added. With my BTX unit added, maximum counterbalance input is needed to address the eyepiece heavy bias of the setup and even then I have to tighten the tilt axis knob slightly...

    Thanks all for the replies, they are most illuminating. I found the bird pictured 1-5 on 11th Sept and thought juvenile Wood Sandpiper, corroborated by a pal who saw it later that day. The following morning, 12th, several more birders watched and photographed what was presumed to be the same...

    To use objective covers or not

    Hi all, I have always affixed a self adhesive 10mm diameter Velcro loop disc to the centre of each objective cover and the corresponding hook disc beneath the barrel. In windy conditions i found the covers would blow into the f.o.v so this was my compromise to keep them clear.
