    Merlin misled?

I occasionally use the photo ID just for fun to see if the app can ID a certain bird, in particular with gulls. It will almost ID every large gull as a Caspian Gull, especially with non adult birds. It also ID'd a Serin as Siskin, only when I removed the exact location it got it right. That was...

    Night vision equipment for mortals

Does anyone have any experience with the Nocpix lumi p13 and how this would compare to the 'big' (and much more expensive) players. Still not cheap though.

    Gull ID, UK today

Thoughts appreciated. This one is not straightforward for me.

Is this a Caspian gull? Ireland, North Coast

Herring Gull for me also. Lots of 2cy Herring Gulls now start showing quite pale/white heads. I think the replaced scaps at this time of year are not unusual for Herring Gull.

    Madeira

I both did the 3 day pelagic and the night time Zino's excursion which was great. Any other Madeiran (speciality) birds are easily found with a little preparation without the need for a guide. Of course if preference is guided birding then you are in good hands with the Windbirds team.

Do you have any more info on the number of letters/numbers? Quite a few different ringing projects with black rings.

Masked Shrike was my first thought

    Pipit vs Skylark

It all comes down to this. Go out birding, take a book, have a detailed look at common species and things will fall into place. Of course reading up will help but it's no substitute. Forgot to say - if you have a chance to tag along with someone experienced it's also invaluable.

    Honey Buzzard sexing

Is it possible to sex this bird? Unfortunately the bird was distant by the time I got bins and camera on it and the photo is a massive crop

Limburg Netherlands - Icterine Warbler ...?

Can't confidently id with these pics but colouration, 'cute' face and possibly shortish wing maybe more in line with Melodious. That said the song is very different with Icterine being quite squeaky/screechy, so sound recording would def resolve.

    Breskens migration watch next week

Was there on Saturday only. Good day with lots of variety but nothing compared to yesterday. Thanks for your help.

R7 for bird photography and birds in flight

Looking forward to seeing those. I've tried to take pics of hirundines and swifts at a migration site yesterday and it's been a bit of a disaster. Focus lock was very tricky and the camera was hunting a lot. Still getting to grips with the slight delay in seeing the image with mirrorless but...

    Breskens migration watch next week

Thank you, looks like the wind is swinging round to easterlies from tomorrow, but very light winds. What impact does wind strength have and which day would look best on current forecast?
