    2017 UK orchids

Frost yesterday morning (-1C) damaged quite a number of flowering GWOs & both D. praetermissa & P. bifolia in bud.

    Bulgarian flowers for identification

I think you are correct with the burnt orchid. Picture 4 is a saxifrage, though without seeing the flower impossible to be definitive. I did see a similar looking plant in Montenegro - Saxifraga federici augusti.

Looks like a hybrid I would suggest a hybrid between Early marsh & Common spotted.

    Orchid for ID, Flamborough

For me it's a good match for Dactylorhiza x formosa, the hybrid between northern marsh & heath spotted. I saw several plants just like this recently in lowland Scotland.

    Orchid, Brittany

It is Dactylorhiza maculata (Heath-spotted orchid) & if it were the UK it would be ssp ericetorum but in France they have, on some basis, separated it as ssp elodes & the photo in Bournerias resembles your plants. It apparently occurs only in the north of the country. Lovely photo by the way.

Hi Rich, I went back to the site a couple of days ago & counted several hundred. Also saw a couple like your photo elsewhere.

Burnt orchid After many years observing this species at a number of Wiltshire sites I am more & more convinced that it is monocarpic. Populations fluctuate dramatically & plants are found in areas they have not previously been seen & disappear from areas where large numbers have occurred in...
