    Siberian Stonechat?

Thanks JanJ and Mark for your comments - I'll have a look at the video my wife took of it and see if I get any better views. At least I know what to look for, specifically. The reason I have posted it on here is my reluctance to believe it would be the rare vagrant rather than the common...

    Siberian Stonechat?

We just returned from Andalucia and managed to identify most birds we saw, but this one (unfortunately poor photos) doesn't look much like any Siberian Stonechat pictures I have seen elsewhere. I wonder whether it is a Sib Chat but with its wings held back a bit thus showing more white than...

    What Chat

Please can anyone identify this bird from the two small photos attached? It was a solitary bird flitting about on the stones on the beach in Lytham (North West England.) My first thoughts were Juvenile Whinchat, but then I wondered if it could be a stonechat or even a wheatear. Any ideas...

    What Tern?

This photo was taken today (June 22nd) at Hodbarrow, Cumbria. Some RSPB 'local' group birders on a day trip thought it was a roseate tern. Can anyone confirm this, please. Cheers Henry

    Purple Martin In Britain!!!

Well WroughtIron, I just googled Purple Martin and restricted the search to the UK. I got a few matches, but one of them was a newspaper report. The newspaper is "The Scotsman", but the story is more about 'twitching' than the bird itself. I have a vague idea that I am not supposed to paste...

Any ideas what species this is?

This photograph was taken today (June 13th) on top of limestone cliffs in Southern Cumbria. The beach was to one side and about 100 yards inland was some mature woodland. (I'm not too hot on trees either, so I couldn't say what they were). Can anyone identify it for me please?

    Peregrine Falcon

I think this is a female, as it was bigger than its mate.

    Gruesome Twosome

These are two of thre chicks in this nest. They are not quite ready to fledge. I was surprised how big they are (and how on earth they all fit in the nest!)

What a lovely photograph. How far away were you from this kingfisher? It looks like he's almost sat on the end of your scope.

Just love dippers! Especially their habit of 'bouncing', and their white eye-lids.

    Kingfisher

Unfortunately this Kingfisher was quite a distance away, patiently watching the water running below. He (or she) did get a small fish, but of course I missed photographing that!

Waxwings - impact on resident birds?

An interesting thought - I would think that there is plenty of food to go round, butthen it is a bit warmer here in sunny (?) Blackpool, so there are lenty of berries about. Unfortunately I have yet to see a Waxwing but I am hoping my trip to Glasgow on Thursday will at least give me an outside...

Lovely lookng bird and a very nice photo. I'm no expert but I think you are right about the fast shutter speed, especially when digiscoping. If there's enough light, I find the quicker the better.
