    Bird Food Recalls

On April 3, 2008, I received word, researched, and posted (http://www.bornagainbirdwatcher.com/2008/04/scotts-wild-bird-food-products.html) that Scott's was ordering at least a portion of three of their wild bird food brands pulled from the shelves due to their inclusion of an EPA unapproved...

    Optolyth ViaNova Binoculars

Thanks ceasar. Yerington is about a fifteen hour drive from Scappoose and about two hours (at least) from Reno. I'll wait until I'm in Reno next then consider the trip. They seem awfully expensive for a product that gets almost no attention in the US birding press and just about as little in...

    Optolyth ViaNova Binoculars

Being here in the U.S. where Optolyth is an unknown brand, does anyone have any experience they can share regarding the Optolyth ViaNova 7x42mm or 8x56mm models? They are quite expensive but seldom are they discussed in forums or in magazine reviews.

    Difference Between Leupold Bino's

Thanks Steve. If I recall correctly there was an airspace between the CaF2 objective lens and the objective doublet lens. However I have not been in charge of the product for almost eight months now so it may have changed. Made in the U.S.A.? Well, I always assume that products that have "Made...

    Difference Between Leupold Bino's

Lenses truecolors, They have one total HD lens per channel and it is one of the objective lenses in that lens grouping. Adding an extra lens in a channel would have required a complete redesign of the entire optical system.

Leupold Leupold Katmai 6x32 same as Opticron Traveller 6x32?

Focus dial position Well, the focus dial on the Traveler is forward of the bridge between the objective lenses and the Katmai has the focus dial between the eyepeice lenses. While there might be a coating difference on the prisms, I think the duck analogy applies.

    Difference Between Leupold Bino's

A few answers Sitkaspruce, Good questions. As the developer of both the original and the HD models when I was the product line manager for all binoculars and spotting scopes, as well as the birding market as a whole, for Leupold, I think I can help. (Full disclosure: I no longer work for...

    leoplod katmai 8x32 help plz

Katmai clarrification A bit of clarrification on the Katmai models, their prism materials, and other items of possible interest. The confusion on the prism glass is a result of a recent upgrade. The prisms are now BAK4. The roof prism is phase coated and the auxiliary prism is treated with a...
