http://raptorpolitics.org.uk/2013/06/04/has-that-day-finally-arrived/ It was bound to happen one day soon. Read the article and lament the total loss of breeding hen harriers from England. What a sickening epitaph. 'The Skydancer. The most persecuted bird of prey in the country'. The principle...

Still there 14-30 other groups very mobile."...

    Birds in Cumbria

The bird is still missing as of today (Friday 20th August) and the owners are obviously keen to hear of further sightings. Furthermore, two days before the escape a sea eagle was reported to the moderator of the Yahoo BirdingCumbria . The bird was apparently seen being mobbed by buzzards from...

    Birds in Cumbria

I quite agree. Not sure how long they've been there but I saw them about 5 years ago and suspect they've increased their numbers. Plenty of local food from the visitors too!

    Bassenthwaite Ospreys 2010

For the record, more than one company make radio and satellite signal trigger demountable collars and don't use Teflon either. Lithium ion technology means batteries can last over 10 years and are solar charged for greater longevity. Just Google avian tracking gps manufacturers and read their...

    Bassenthwaite Ospreys 2010

Sorry you weren't lucky with the weather but unfortunately if it didn't rain here as much as it does it would simply be called The District which doesn't quite have the same ring to it! ;) Hope you enjoyed the experience anyway. Best wishes Martin

    Bassenthwaite Ospreys 2010

Back to the thread and good to see that both chicks have now left the nest safely although returning periodically for food. Let's hope their early days flying in the rain haven't been too traumatic!

    Bassenthwaite Ospreys 2010

Thank you for your illuminating reply. Searching for 'mac cook harrogate' seeming produces nothing more than the same stories you have related here. No reference to you appears in any peer reviewed scientific journal around the globe. I've 'looked up' tyhe following as you suggested and again...
