    R8 or R7 for grid photography

    You don't need IBIS for the 100-500 since it's already stabilized, rated at 5 stops. I think the R7 would add an extra stop of stabilization (IBIS and IS would work in sync), but it's not a huge deal really - 5 is plenty. I'd personally go with the R7 for the reach. The 100-500 is a pain to use...

    For some reason the throat does not look "ruby" on this picture. The throat color becomes visible if the bird is looking straight at me (my camera) - see the second pic.

    Your blog is great and the owl pictures are awesome! Concerning this “clear zoom” - not sure if I see much difference. If you need more resolution (and, effectively, “zoom”) - take a look at topaz gigapixel or topaz photo ai. Topaz works pretty good of you start with a good picture.
