Why are Zeiss so sharp on-axis compared to other binoculars?

The irony of posting this on a forum dedicated to looking at birds with binoculars is baffling.

Why are Zeiss so sharp on-axis compared to other binoculars?

Your response to the my statement regarding hearing and vision loss with age was an absolute and unequivocal: You went on to expand on the variance of hearing and vision loss without clarifying that you didn't disagree with the hearing loss due to age part of the statement. Your post was...

Why are Zeiss so sharp on-axis compared to other binoculars?

I stand corrected, on both counts.

Why are Zeiss so sharp on-axis compared to other binoculars?

Optical glass has to be stone-ground with hard abrasive stones, usually diamonds. Yes even the almighty Zeiss is reduced to humbly stone grinding glass.

Why are Zeiss so sharp on-axis compared to other binoculars?

That's breaking news, you should let the scientific community know that hearing doesn't deteriorate in the elderly. "According to ISO 7029:2000 (International Organization for Standardization), the over-60 age group loses hearing of 1dB on average per year. Hearing loss increases over time.1)...

Why are Zeiss so sharp on-axis compared to other binoculars?

Zeiss has great chromatic aberration control but you got carried away in your cherry picking and accidentally posted examples with lower sharpness that disproves the point you were trying to make in this thread. Swarovski doesn't use Schott glass because they make their own artisanal...

Why are Zeiss so sharp on-axis compared to other binoculars?

This is precisely what snapped me out of the audiophile rabbit hole. I realized everyone reviewing the equipment was an old ear with diminished hearing. They would throw up a chart to try to legitimize their opinion but that chart had little to do with what you would actually hear and the rest...

    New Binocular Bargains Thread

I don't know if ebay links are allowed in this thread but someone put a used Swarovski NL Pure 10x42 on ebay for $2200. Seems like a great price and great condition but can't speak for the seller. If I didn't have one I would have gotten it. https://www.ebay.com/itm/116264486658

Initial user impressions of the NL x52’s

I don't know about smaller but the shape does make it handle well despite the weight. I have heard some people don't like the shape and prefer traditional barrel designs so it's worth it to try for yourself. The shape is my favorite thing about the NL Pures. They are a joy to handle and make it...

    Final verdict

Your experience is very valuable, I doubt most people put as much stress on binoculars as you do but it's good to know how different binoculars handle heavy use. Seems like some Leica and Zeiss models were the top contenders for heavy use. What was the point failure of your NL?

Initial user impressions of the NL x52’s

You have a great lineup of Nikon binoculars that fit your needs better than the NL Pure ever could. I'm getting better and better at reducing glare on the NL Pures but it's definitely its Achilles' heel and not an automatic fix for me. When the glare is under control, or a situation where there...

Initial user impressions of the NL x52’s

I can see how the bag doesn't work for you in your use case. I found it annoying shoving the strap into the case. Since I no longer use the strap the bag is more useable. I find side loading faster and more convenient. I can also see how the bag is more than you need when you just want something...

Initial user impressions of the NL x52’s

This is refreshing to hear, I always feel the NL Pure wants me to get in this uncomfortable position I don't want to be in to eliminate glare. Cool, glare is minimized but if I look away from the middle I get blackouts. When I don't have to battle contrasting light and I can put the eyecups in...

Binocular magnification: an immutable 2008 perspective

I haven't used a 7x but I have done 10x vs 8x comparisons. It's not life or death for me but I find that with 10x the image looks quite natural and visually pleasing. Looking through 8x I always feel like I'm missing more magnification and it feels quite unsatisfying. I always wonder if my...

What position do you set your eyecups? Thanks in advance.
