How much of x10 (over x8) is psychological?

Agree fully with this. Worry less about magnification and focus on being a better birder.

Is there a a little more bright, wider FoVd & neutral color Toric for <=$1000?

I think you will be happy with the HG. As someone who has just got one and was previously using the Monarch 7 I can say it is an improvement in every facet. Sharper, brighter, more contrast, much much better glare control and sweet spot is big (not quite edge to edge but definitely not...

    Which sub-alpha bino

Hi, I'm back! So a few months ago I started this thread about some mid-range 8x42 bins - the SLC, Conquest HD and Monarch HG. Well now I have manged to look through some and must say, as many of you did, seeing is the only way to go. Unfortunately none of the models of primary interest were...

    Your pick btw 8x32, 8x42, 8.5x42?

Thanks Lee. The Conquest HD 8x32 is actually probably the third bino on the list, at less than half the price of the SV 8x32. It does seem to have a lot of fans.

    Your pick btw 8x32, 8x42, 8.5x42?

Interesting thread. I'm tossing up between the SLC and EL8x32. My preference is smaller so that is a big plus to the EL. But it has the "glare" problems and that is a big dislike on my current bin. I do imagine it should be a lot better than a Monarch 7 so likely I wouldn't be bothered too...

    $100-$300 Binocular recommendation.

Seems like you are doing well getting around and testing everything. My 2 cents. Stretch your budget or save a bit longer and get what you prefer now. Don't regret it. Buy once. I have used Monarch 5 & 7 and Vanguard 8x32 edII. I'd go the Monarch 7 without doubt. More neutral colour and...

    Which sub-alpha bino

The term may not be popular but there is no denying it's usefulness on a forum like this. You say the word and everyone is aware of the handful of the instruments being referred to. For my part, ""sub-alpha"in the heading was purely a cost factor. The ones listed as far as i am aware are the...

    Which sub-alpha bino

Thank you for the photo and weighing them (in grams! :t:). A great help to see them side by side like that. I will take your advice and decide whether the extra money will be worth spending. The SLC is certainly firming as the top option though. With the close focus I did some more research on...

    Which sub-alpha bino

I have used an 8x32 and prefer the size and weight of a 42. The Conquest is interesting though as it is only weighs 30 grams less than the HG. But still not sure how it will feel in the hand as placement of the 42 to me seems more natural. Unfortunately the only one I can find nearby will be if...

    Which sub-alpha bino

Wanting to buy a very nice bino. Options above this group are mostly close to or exceeding 2x the cost which as much as would be nice, is hard to justify and i'd prefer the difference go to a birding trip. Nikon Monarch HG 8x42 - biggest FOV, lightest Zeiss Conquest HD 8x42 - cheapest, smallest...

    Vanguard Endeavor II

Thanks David, I had seen your report on the 8x42s and it was one initially got me interested in them. Good to hear the 32s are very close to the performance of the larger ones as that is the way I am leaning. - I was initially after a smaller/lighter bin as some days carrying a DSLR/lens/bins...

    Vanguard Endeavor II

Hi all, I am looking at the Endeavor II 8x32 and 8x42 and wonder if I could really go wrong. Unfortunately will be buying unseen. Current bins are the Monarch 3 8x42 which I still quite like and will be hanging onto. Big upgrade? Is the 42 worth the extra 230 or so grams? Could the first...
