  1. Cormorant

    Cormorant

This was taken on the same outing from a hide overlooking the river. The distance was rather great and the light not right either. Anyhow, it is a record of a great day out.

A Devonian Meets some other Devonians and a Couple of Mancunians!

We did have a great day out, thanks to Andrew. I have uploaded a couple of photos into the gallery. Sadly, not very good as the distance to these tiny birds was just too great. Proof anyhow that we did see the yellowhammers! Thanks, Andrew.

Same place, Aylesbeare Common. This photo has a ghostly yellowhammer in the background! Dedicated to all Andrew's hard work in organising the day.

    Yellowhammer

Photo taken at Aylesbeary Common in Devon at the enjoyable unofficial Devon Bash, organised by Andrew. Sorry, Andrew, photo not so good as the distance was just too great!

    My set-up and portable hide

Walter, I like your setup a lot, you do look the part. Your picture showing us how you carry your stuff is terrific. Very good idea. (I am a Dutch lady...small world) Lol, Birdman.......now you say it, it looks a bit like a tardus! (if only it was!) In the meantime I have put up a small shed in...

    2nd attempt at Digiscopeing

Andy has said it all! I would like to add, that, composition and subject apart....you did well to get the image as clear and sharp as you did, for a second attempt it is not bad at all.

    wren

Graham, I like your little Wren. She looks pretty sharp where it matters most.......around the face and eye. She looks a bit too close-up perhaps, but you did well to get her at her level. The OOF background is a bit distracting and certainly the furthest branch could be cloned out. I think...

    weather

Hear, hear, I am so bored with the British weather. Got the winter-woollies out again. At least it stopped me in my tracks going out to take pictures and I have managed to put up a new shed which is going to be a permanent hide with all creature comforts, a high chair, shelve for the coffee and...

    Another Egyptian Goose

This is the one but last goose picture...the end is in sight! The goose has left the Mill pond now anyway.

    May 2003 Competition Photos - page 4

Gull with crab on River Dart Went to my local Mill Pond, River Dart, on one of my rare outing with camera/tripod away from my place. The idea was to start learning to get birds in flight. I saw this gull catching and eating the little crab and it has only just occured to me that the picture...

    Does this work?

Nigel, you are a true artist. Thank you for showing us that in spite of all the minus points there could still be a plus point, if only one was blessed with an artistic flair. Of course you are right about the angle! I will always try and remind myself that the bird has to have room to go...

    Does this work?

Uncropped version Hi Folks, Thank you so much for your feedback. Such a good way to learn to evaluate one's own efforts. Looking at the picture above afresh I feel that you are right and it is just not quite right. The picture was taken last night, just to try out my new 1D, so the composition...

This is my try at being artistic! Does this work with members. It is so difficult to judge one's own work objectively!!

I'm Still Learning So Please Be Kind!

Hi Tammie, Good artistic effort but imo too much in your face. Also with shots like that it is important too get a clean oof background by I presume a wide-open lens. It is then also important to get the focus right. What does not look nice is that the nearest point of the catkin is oof (out...
