    D200 - Poor quality pics

I do not have any problem with my D200. This picture was taken with D200/Nikon 80-400 hand holding. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2447/3681946520_0da0fdf2c0_b.jpg

    Best DSLR with SD card.

Finally it looks like it worth waiting for. Thank you, Nikon. http://gadgetcrave.com/unofficial-nikon-d300s-images-appear/1140/

    Which macro lens - Nikon

I use Micro Nikkor 60mm and Micro Nikkor VR105. Both of them are very good for small insects. At night and when I ould go closer I prefer the 60mm as it is much lighter than the VR105. This picture was taken with VR105 and Nikon D200. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1400/1068847727_458bf41662_o.jpg

D200 vs a new Big Lens

Don't give up on the 80 -400 zoom and if you want better quality , upgrade the D200 to the D300, and if you want better quality again upgrade to zoom to the 300/4 AFS plus 1.4x. My problem with D200 plus 80-400VR is not with quality. It's the 2,300 grams weight of the combination. Upgrade to...

D200 vs a new Big Lens

Neil; Agree with your coment. What I tried to say is that practice is more important than expensive equipments. The bird was taken when I went out with a friend who came to visit us. We live near the reservoir so we went out by bicycles, he had with him a D100 and several lenses. I only had the...

D200 vs a new Big Lens

You do not need those expensive cameras and lenses to take good birds photographs. This picture was taken with a Sony DSC-V1 point and shoot with 34-136mm lens. http://www.birdforum.net/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/30349/cat/500/ppuser/13088 My favorit camera for birding is now Canon G9 point...

D80 + spotting scope or new lens??

Your D80 is good enough for birding. Get a Nikkor 80-400VR and start practicing. You need lots of practices to take good bird pictures. Expensive cameras and lenses are not necessary. This picturewas taken with D50 and 80-400VR...

    D300 + 300mm f4 af-s and autofocus

"In actual fact I don't believe that the 1.4 is as good as is often quoted either." All TC are designed tobe used with all kinds of lenses. No way they will be as good as good zoom enses that are designed for particular lens. To me 80-400 is a better lens for birding than 300+1.4 TC. Not only...

Do you use superzooms? (upcoming Nikon P80)

I used to have Panasonic FZ20. It is good enough for birds in the field with bright sunlight. Not good enough with ISO higher than 200. See some of my bird pictures taken with FZ20 here: http://www.birdforum.net/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/56887/ppuser/13088

    80-400 VR or 300 f4 with 1.4tc?

    80-400 VR or 300 f4 with 1.4tc?

In the film days I use Nikon 400 mm f/4 for birding. Most National Georgraphic photographers at that time also use 400 mm lenses for birds. I am now try to bring back old memories by setting my 80-400 at 270 mm which will be close to using 400 mm lens on FF cameras. So far so good, hand holding...

    80-400 VR or 300 f4 with 1.4tc?

I used to have focussing problem with 80-400 VR and D200 but was fixed by having the focus module of the D200 (include motor) changed by Nikon dealer. Since then I am very happy with the lens. I do not think prime lenses with TC can be as sharp as a good low power zoom like the 80-400 VR. 80-400...

    D700, it's official.

D300 is one year old not six months. I do not believe Nikon updating D300 with D700. Maybe we shall see D400 soon. D700 is a lower priced D3 for people who may not want to pay the D3 higher price.

    D700, it's official.

Afraid I shall have to wait for D400,D500,orD600 for compact flash cards! I do not think Nikon will ever use compact cards in the D800,D900 FF line ;) I now bypass CF cards by connecting direct from D200 to pc so I do not have to see the ugly big CF cards.:t:

    D700, it's official.

I think high ISO of the D3 and D700 help bird photographers. I tried D3 at high ISO and very impressed but did not buy one because of the high price and heavy weight of the D3. I did not buy D300 because it's high ISO capability is just one stop better than my D200. I am waiting for dslr like...
