    Ivory-billed Woodpecker (formerly updates)

Hoax? Who knows? Perhaps this is not a hoax. You might want to read Cyberthrush's latest post entitled --FLASH!-- What a mind-boggling turn of events, scarcely believable. But it's very readable, and highly entertaining.

White Bill? I think I see a great big enormous honking white bill on Mike's "gliding" clip! And to my eyes there also seems to be a suggestion of a white dorsal stripe. Double click on Michael Collins' interesting clip and see what you think. http://www.fishcrow.com/2ndclip3nov09.mp4

And the power of a modern video camera, perhaps. Have a look at this and the preceding posts. 11-5-09. Two days ago, I obtained footage that is a quantum level better than previous footage. This morning, I obtained footage that is a few additional quantum levels better, confirms what I have...

Who knows with any absolute certainty? What is a fact that we as a species have collected too many Ivory-billed Woodpeckers, have shot too many of them, and have destroyed too much of their habitat. Such impressive forests. Such magnificent birds.

Well, except that even Indiana was not "way out of range". In fact it is (was) not out of range at all. And Audubon stated that this bird usually "only" nested once per year in that rather northerly state.

If you haven't already done so, check out Cyberthrush's website here: http://ivorybills.blogspot.com/ It is ablaze with interesting speculation and comment recently. If you liken it to a film, he is producer and director, while Bill Pulliam is the undoubted star. Cyberthrush is deliberately...

Thank you for that link. I'm sure I can see a white shield on "Blurry Headed Bird #2". The authors say it is too large to be a Red Headed Woodpecker. So, I'll say it: it could possibly be an Ivory-billed Woodpecker! Likewise, I can see an extensive white trailing edge on the large "Mystery Bird...

    Ivory-billed Woodpecker (formerly updates)

Well, I respectfully disagree, Cyberthrush. For example, if the photographs are genuine, then Fielding Lewis was also likely being truthful when he said that he last saw the bird in 1989. Getting recent, aren't we? And Ivory-billed Woodpeckers, like donkeys, live for a long time. On your own...

And just to spell it out, Fielding Lewis DID indeed produce photographic evidence in 1971.:t:

Johnny, Fielding Lewis's photographs are in the public domain and they undoubtedly show an Ivory-billed Woodpecker. You mention the phrase, "irrefutably genuine photos". Are you saying they are faked? Can you prove it with all the modern technology at your disposal? It is interesting that IBWO...

Photographs Changing the subject only very slightly, I read this truly fascinating account of previous photographs of the Ivory-billed Woodpecker. http://www.ibwo.net/forum/showthread.php?t=5&page=21 The account was written by Idlewild, a personal friend of the great, lamented Fielding Lewis...

    Bird Jokes!

Ivory-billed Woodecker Years ago, a young Choupique was living in the depths of the Atchafalaya Swamp in Louisiana with his parents. He was out in the forest one day and his father was showing him three Ivory-billed Woodpeckers, one male and two female. "See those birds, Choupique? They're...

Lord God All these priests, Peterbrash as befits, perhaps, The Lod God Bird. But then again ....... If I were out in Fielding Lewis's Louisiana swamps, and if I saw an Ivory-billed Woodpecker, (I can dream) I don't suppose that I would state,"Good Heavens! I do believe that I have just seen...
