    Yes, we always without fail see them between Leeds & Skipton when visiting OH's family. We're in a Red Kite area too (Reading). I love them :t:

    Could the bird be the resident Haweswater Golden Eagle, David? You're in the right corner of the Lakes in terms of location of the sighting.

    Aurora Borealis

    Capercaillie, that's fantastic! I'm very envious... I have only seen the lights once, and that was near Kelso in the Borders. Just white flashes- nothing like your light show- but it still made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

    First signs of spring

    First Chiffchaff heard on 24/2 this year. A record for my local patch too. Heard Skylarks singing when walking on the Downs yesterday, and a Woodpecker drumming. Also saw first bumblebees and first butterflies of the year.

    We had a similar thread a while back I think. I remember posting that I think Blackbirds should be renamed as Garden Ouzels. I love 'king of the fence' for Wren. That's so apt. :t:

    ID Help Needed

    Although the bent neck and long beak don't fit, are you sure it wasn't a Red Kite? There are loads of them in our neck of the woods and they can look very dark in flight. Just a thought.

    6.62 on second attempt (as mongoose this time). I am at least improving.

    Only 8.46 seconds for me. It gets easier once you get your eye in though. Great fun!
