Sea bird off the coast of Krabi, Thailand

That was my first idea, but the one likely gull candidate with a dark head would be a Brown-headed Gull - and that is a small gull (like European Black-Headed), so not sure whether it would fit in terms of overall body shape and shape of wings. Plus, one picture appears to show (very faint)...

Sea bird off the coast of Krabi, Thailand

Noddy would have been nice, but it would be quite a rarity here - last ebird record (Brown Noddy) for the province dates back to 2007... I have no experience with noddies and am not sure whether head color and wing shape would fit

Sea bird off the coast of Krabi, Thailand

Hi all - any chance to get some hints on the ID of this bird? Seen at sunset a couple of km off the shore of a small island in Krabi province, Thailand (and, respectively, about 10-15km from the mainland). Very few details are visible, but I do note that the head appears dark on two pictures...

    Canon R7 - settings for moving/soaring birds

Thank you for sharing your insights. The approach you suggest - focusing with back buttons - appears to be the one suggested by professional photographers (at least in the tutorial videos I have seen). So this is probably a better approach. It is, however, different from what I am used to -...

    Canon R7 - settings for moving/soaring birds

Hi All, I ask for your kind advice here. I am probably getting something wrong with the settings, and would be grateful for your support. So, recently I switched from Canon D80 to the mirrorless R7. I am using R7 together with my “old” Canon EF 100-400 lens and the Canon EF-RF adapter. This...

Thank you. I did see your report a month or two ago and it was a very useful read!

Sure, I will - just could you pls specify what exactly you mean by "accessibility situation"?

Anybody travelling to Kaeng Krachan (Thailand) in late April?

Hi All, I will be visiting Kaeng Krachan NP with my family on 23-26 April 2025. I will be staying at Baan Maka and will have a local guide kindly provided by the Lodge. Any chance somebody else on this forum will be in that area around those dates? If our dates happen to coincide - I would...

    Day trip from KL

Hello - I went to Bukit Tinggi for one morning in late July. I was with a local person and I had a rented car. I certainly think you can go solo there (although having a local knowledgeable person would probably contribute to your experience - this was my case at least). But I do not think...

    Peninsular Malaysia - Local Contact

Hi All, let me leave this info here – just in case it would be useful for someone travelling to Malaysia. In July-August 2024 I went with my family to South-East Asia and spent several weeks in Peninsular Malaysia. While this was more of a family vacation trip, I wanted to take the opportunity...

    EL 8.5x42 vs EL 10x42

Thank you for this suggestion. I never thought of this model. I will see whether I can find a local dealer that has it available and would let me test in field conditions (not that easy as I discovered today) - and will then give it a try.

    EL 8.5x42 vs EL 10x42

Hi All, getting back to the original question I asked at the start of this thread :) - just wanted to write a quick update here after I have actually tested the binos in the field (and arrived at the results that i did not expect). Caveat - I only express my opinion as a birder and not as an...

    EL 8.5x42 vs EL 10x42

Hi All, I plan to upgrade from my current Nikon Monarch 7 8x42 - and I am looking at Swarovski EL 8.5x42 or EL 10x42. These would my main, all-round, "general purpose" binoculars - used in a variety of habitats and under different light conditions. So the big question for me is - which one...

Thank you. Just for my benefit - could you pls mention the key ID features that speak in favor of the black tern here?

Tern - Black Sea coast of Bulgaria (22 Sep 2024)

Hi all, pls kindly share your opinions on this tern - Little or Common (or some other)? It certainly appeared very small when i was observing it, so I initially recorded it as a Little - but looking at the details of the plumage on the pics I am no longer 100% sure... Thanks
