    Swallows are late this year?

Saw a whole bunch of Sand Martins on the Thames at Kingston about ten days ago , and a couple of Swallows over some water in a nearby park today. No House Martins yet.

    The Wood Pigeon

Last winter brought a stunning increase in the numbers seen in and around my garden , thirteen milling around just outside my window at one time. Numbers have decreased now of course , but I recently saw a Feral Pigeon performing a courtship ritual , pirouetting and head bobbing , in front of a...

    Loud bird call, West Yorkshire

I guessed Great Tit before watching the video. They seem particularly loud round my way this year and I have spent a lot of time with the binoculars checking the ID. They do a prolonged sawing sound which can get a bit tedious , but I'm happy to say is often accompanied by a Goldfinch at the...

    Id please anyone

... and easy pickings for a vixen with mouths to feed. I used to watch a vixen bring them back from some nearby allotments and feed them to her brood in my back garden. Real Springwatch stuff. Snake My Birdy Pics

Unkown bird call, UK, any pointers?

Marvellous , I flog around my locality in Jan and Feb following sightings and don't see a hint of a Waxwing. Other people find them doing telephone impersonations in late March. Where's the justice ? Snake My Birdy Pics (no waxwings)

Hybrid Duck near London (UK) 2011

Rosybill , I hadn't thought of that. Maybe an escapee from the wetlands centre a few miles away. The duck pics are still there. Maybe a temporary glitch with the host system. Snake My Birdy Pics

    What's your most common

In the garden it's got to be Wood Pigeons , particularly in bad weather. I counted 13 (in a small garden !) at one time during last winter. Above the garden it's got to be the Ring Necked Parakeet. We are on one of their daily migration paths between roost and feeding grounds. At some times of...

My Roof Has Built-In Nest Boxes

I don't think this is a problem. In the UK we get a nature series on the BBC TV called Springwatch. Every year they place cameras in nest boxes , which of course reveal some interesting things about the habits of our feathered friends. As part of the feeding process the young Tits turn their...

    Great Day

Hmmm , yes nice when that happens , isn't it. I had that feeling a couple of days ago. It warm and sunny. I had two pairs of Wigeon in view , a Lark ascending throatily behind me and a Green Woodpecker calling some way off. Bliss My Birdy Pics

My Roof Has Built-In Nest Boxes

Unfortunately they don't have entrance holes so the tits have to get in between the tiles and the barge board. Every year they make the entrance bigger by pecking at it. Sounds like we have have a woodpecker in the roof...
