    OM-1 vs Canon R7 both w/100-400

    I was debating the two set ups as well. Ended up purchasing a third option - Sony A6700 with Sony 70-350mm lens (525mm equivalent reach). Love it. It’s the same size or smaller than the Nikon P950 and weighs 2 pounds. We are loving the bird-eye autofocus. It’s not a perfect set up by any means...

    Comparing 4 Options

    All - I think I have my options narrowed down to four (see below). This will be our first birding camera. Looking for something manageable size and weight wise and with good bird/bird eye autofocus. Reach is important, but I've also considered if a bird is simply too far away, it'll be hard...

    Your WORST identifiable photos

    Haha! Damn good. Pileated. It flew over me while on a walk. Pulled out my phone and snapped a shot when it landed on a tree. What’s crazy, is that I zoomed and cropped the original photo. But that red, triangle crest nails it.

    It’s there! Look for the red pixels and it becomes obvious? Regarding the kingfisher - it’s the bird that got me into birding. I’ve been at it only a few months at this point, and that picture (today) was my first of the species.

    What are the best really "CHEAP" birding binoculars?

    As stated in another thread I started, I am thrilled with the Vortex Raptor 8.5x. Very solid, imo, for $120.

    Any theories on why I keep choosing a cheaper bin?

    My son has a pair of Vortex Viper 8x42 and a pair of Vortex Raptors 8.5x32. I know that the Raptors are lighter and have slightly more magnification power, but I'm not convinced that's the whole story. Sometimes I feel like the colors are more vibrant, but it could just be my mind playing...
