    Panasonic GX8 Flash advice, please

PANASONIC DMW-FL360 is an excellent medium sized flash unit, and is identical to the Olympus FL-36 in size, weight, function, etc ... everything but the brand and styling. So check the price for an FL-36 or FL-36R before buying. The only downside to the FL-36/FL360 is that it only takes two AA...

Which MFT camera works well for quick switch to Video

I tried both the Sony and Samsung NX and NEX cameras not long ago, and have to admit that one of them, the user interactions were so confusing, that it wasn't worth it. The other brand felt more comfortable. While I shoot a Canon dSLR as my main camera, having a mirrorless pocket camera would be...

Pulling details out of the shadows

I’ve been using LR2 for a little over a month now (been using Capture NX2 for a long time) and have been quite happy with it. I even wrote a post myself about LR2 and how I was able to fix some old images with it that NX2 wouldn’t do. I learned a new trick from your video as well, using the...

    Canon SX50 viewfinder fault

The manual says "Open the screen to activate it when the camera is on. This will deactivate the viewfinder. Similarly, close the screen (facing the camera body) to deactivate it and activate the viewfinder" Sounds like it should be automatic to me.

    Shooting in RAW

In photography the best solution is almost always whatever it takes to get you taking more pictures. When you hit a technical roadblock, that is the time to upgrade the hardware. The reason being that you will then understand the how and why on a very personal level. First priority is to do it...

DSLR or mirrorless for wildlife photography

As a professional photographer I can impart this tidbit of knowledge. Megapixels is important and a decent body, but in almost all cases it is the Lens. Canon’s 70-300 series of lens is OK but unless you get the L version of the lens you will probably be disappointed. I have used my Canon...

    Canon SX50 Flash ring

I just saw a friend's shot of the full moon at maximum telescope- unbelievable, hand held, too. The definition of the craters were something but seeing the jagged edge of mountains really stunned me. I would like to see a larger sensor to match its RAW capability, but the price is certainly right.

    Going macro - options???

An upstart Chinese company has designed and is now manufacturing 2 macro lenses like no other, the Laowa 60mm 2X macro and a 15mm 1X macro lens. I bought them in Sony A-mount because my A77II has both in-body stabilization and focus peaking. Otherwise, I’m a Nikon shooter but you can’t beat...

    Olympus Tough 3

Bought this back in August 2014. We are very outdoors people and need a rugged and waterproof point and shoot. Lots of snorkeling. Lots of mountain hiking. So with the waterproof capability, GPS, compass and altimeter I thought this was the perfect answer to all my needs. Picture detail is very...
