    Yorkshire Birding

I absolutely love feeding the birds in my garden, and have several feeders filled with a variety of seeds as well as coconut halves filled with suet, fat balls and peanuts in a cage feeder. However, by far the most visited 'station' in the last week or so has been the water bowl - virtually all...

Bolton Abbey/The Strid Just wondering if anyone has been to Bolton Abbey or the Strid in the last week or so - have the pied fly's, redstarts, wood warblers etc started to return yet? Thanks. Tom

Dartford warbler apparently now at St. Aiden's - went this morning and unfortunately dipped on it, but quite windy so that was putting birds down. Quite a few stonechats about though.

Short-Eared Owls I would dearly love to photograph SEO's as I've never managed to achieve this yet. Does anyone know of any fairly reliable locations for seeing them? I live in Shipley but I do drive so reasonable distance isn't a problem. If publicising locations is a cause for concern, I'd be...

Goldfinches Has anyone else noticed a proliferation of goldfinches just recently? This morning I counted 10 on my feeders, with more in the trees close by. And yet I only have a single scruffy female greenfinch, with no male apparent. I'd be interested to know if anyone else has had this...

    Strid Walk

Strid Walk Had a great walk up and down the Strid this morning - plenty of pied flycatchers, male and female redstarts and even saw a woodcock! I've attached a couple of photos. Sadly no wood warblers, however. And if the guy with the telescope who helped me with pied flycatcher and redstart is...

Keith, thanks so much for the invite. Gutted to say I've been away this weekend otherwise would have definitely joined you. How did it go today - what sightings did you manage? Thanks again. Tom

Barden to Strid Walk Good Morning. Please could someone give me some details of the Barden walk to the Strid. I know that just over Barden Bridge there is a car park which is where I assume people park, but where does the walk begin? Is it on the same side of the river as the car park, or do you...

Have there been any reports of pied flycatchers at Bolton Abbey yet, or is it still a bit too early?

UK, Yorkshire, Near Bolton Abbey, Strid Woods

Hi, I came across this bird while on a walk from Barden Bridge to Bolton Abbey - can anyone help with its identification please? Slightly bigger than a robin, I'm thinking it's a female of whatever species it is. I've attached 3 photos. Many thanks, Tom

Had a fabulous sight in my back garden yesterday - a young GS Pecker being fed by its mum. They stayed there for about 5 minutes - the mum would fly to a feeder with a suet cake in it, take a beak-full and then fly back to the fence to feed junior. Managed to get a few shots of this.

Strid Woods Had my first walk in Strid Woods today - I've never seen a pied flycatcher before, let alone photographed one. The light was poor but I did manage a few bird shots, which I've added, including a trophy shot of the pied flycatcher. However, I'd love some advice on where the best...
