    Problems with Kowa Europe

    Kowa 25-60 Eyepiece I've just sent back my third example owing to bits inside the lens. I met a chap in Hungary with bits in his lens and that was his 4th example! Also met several others in UK with same issue. All mine have been worst at 35x when the particles come into focus. In each case...

    Anyone know what these hair-like nape feathers are?

    Filoplumes I've noticed these on a number of species, including Chaffinches on which they are easily seen on high quality photos. My guess is that they perform the same function as 'air data probes' on modern fighter jets. That is they inform the bird's brain about the airflow over the body...
