Leica APO Televid 82 - first impressions

Many apologies for the late reply... (BirdForum, and birding, has taken a back-seat for a while as I start a new job.) The Leica has been a great scope so far, although in my case, cost was a factor in the choice. The Leica was available at about £2200, including extender. For the same price, I...

Leica APO Televid 82 - first impressions

I use it all the time now. The extra magnification is really appreciated, although the image is noticeably darker. On cloudy days, the difference in brightness is quite noticeable. The boost from 50x to 90x is great, when needed. Although I probably use it most frequently at about 60x or 70x.

Leica APO Televid 82 - first impressions

I'm still using the same Gitzo 1545T that I paired with my old Razor (pictured). Its not really sturdy enough to handle scopes of this size, but I love the build quality and simplicity of Gitzo tripods, and the Traveller series packs down very small.

Excellent setup. All else being equal, what do you find to be the main advantage of the 115 over the 95?

Is it worth buying the new nl 52

I have to admit, that sounds about right to me too. I’ve used the 12x42 for a few years now, and I’ve been thinking that an 8x or 10x32 is the better companion. Hence my ambivalent reaction to the news. I may eat my words after getting around to checking out a 52 in person, and then I would...

Which binocular(s) did you use today?

I was only there earlier in June, so I couldn't say. But we had cold winds and hot sun. So if you stay out of the shade, its lovely!

Which binocular(s) did you use today?

Yes, the NL 12x42 is perfect for scenery viewing! Cliffs, waves, fields and other landscape features look amazing.

Which binocular(s) did you use today?

That's part of Wheal Coates tin mine, near St Agnes, which (*quick Google...) has been inhabited since 1692, although the ruins visible here are probably part of the structures built around 1802.

Which binocular(s) did you use today?

Looking for seals on the Cornish coast. No luck. Plenty of seagulls etc. and the odd kestrel on the road.
