Sometimes placed in Tachyspiza.
Reference [2] notes that the taxon is sometimes split into 2 species: "Halmahera Sparrowhawk", A. erythrauchen (ssp. erythrauchen), and "Seram Sparrowhawk", A. ceramensis (ceramensis)
Subspecies
Clements recognises the following subspecies [1]:
- T. e. erythrauchen: "Halmahera Sparrowhawk"
- Morotai, Halmahera, Bacan and Obi (Moluccas)
- T. e. ceramensis: "Seram Sparrowhawk"
- Buru, Ambon and Seram (Molucccas)
Habitat
Moist lowland forests and montanes.
