Identification
13·9–14·5 cm (5½-5¾ in) Adult Male
- Black plumage
- Red crown, neck and upper back
- Obvious red crest
Female: Olive green Immature male: similar to females
Distribution
South America: found in central southern Brazil and adjacent areas of north-east Bolivia and north-east Paraguay.
Taxonomy
The closest relative seems to be Araripe Manakin.
Subspecies
This is a monotypic species[1].
Habitat
Mostly occupies gallery woodland. Tropical savana.

Diet includes fruit and insects, mostly taken in flight.
Breeding
Their nest is a shallow cup constructed from twigs, rootlets and leaves.
