Identification
- Dark reddish eye
- Bright yellow underside including the throat and vent areas, as well as the underwings (visible in flight).
Distribution
Sub-Saharan Africa: South Africa to Angola and Kenya
Taxonomy
Subspecies
Three subspecies are recognized[1]:
- C. f. centralis:
- Somalia to Kenya, eastern Tanzania and northern Mozambique
- C. f. occidentalis:
- Angola to Democratic Republic of the Congo and western Tanzania south to Botswana, Mozambique, and northeastern South Africa (south to Mpumulanga).
- C. f. flaviventris:
- Southern Mozambique, eSwatini, and eastern South Africa (south to KwaZulu-Natal and extreme northern Eastern Cape)
Habitat
Forest, savanna and thicket.
Behaviour
Apt to sit in the top of a tree when calling.
Diet
Their diet consists of both fruit, including figs and insects.
