Located in north-east England. The County located around the River Tees Estuary extending from Hartlepool in the north to Loftus in the south and from Recar in the east to Yarm in the west.
The County Council was dissolved into unitary authorities covering Hartlepool, Stockton-on-Tees, Middlesbrough and Redcar and Cleveland - but Cleveland still exists as a natural geographical area surrounding the Tees basin.
