Identification

14cm

  • Brown upperparts
  • White throat and chest
  • Pale blue skin around eye
  • Black in front of and behind eye
  • Short tail

Distribution

South America: east of the Andes in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Brazil.

Taxonomy

Formerly treated conspecific with Bicolored Antbird.

Subspecies

4 Subspecies recognized:

Habitat

Moist lowland forests.

Behaviour

It follows an ant-swarm army; the ants stir up insects and spiders in leaf litter which the antbirds feed on.
