Identification

White face and underparts with a black band across the chest. Upperside has dark cap separated from greyish mantle by pale collar, darker wings and tail and pale grey bar across the middle of the wing from the alula area to the tertials. Legs does not extend past the strongly forked tail in flight.

Distribution

Humboldt Current off the coasts of Peru, Chile and Ecuador.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species.

Habitat

Pelagic in the Humboldt Current. Breeding grounds unknown.

Behaviour

Likes to alternate a few wing strokes with long glides.
