Identification

15–16 cm (6-6¼ in)

  • Yellowish-buff supercilium
  • Chestnut upperparts
  • Cream throat

South America: found in Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia

Taxonomy

Subspecies

There are 3 subspecies[1]:

  • M. s. perlatus:
  • M. s. peruvianus:
  • Andes of Peru (Cajamarca to Huánuco, Junín and Cuzco)
  • M. s. squamiger:
  • Andes of south-eastern Peru (Puno) and western Bolivia (La Paz and Cochabamba)

Habitat

Widespread in upper subtropical and temperate forest and woodland on both slopes.

Behaviour

Diet

Their diet consists mostly of arthropods. The occasionally forage alone, but more often in pairs and sometimes groups of up to eight birds.
