16.5–17 cm

  • Brown back, wings and top of head
  • Cinnamon underparts, tail, rump and throat
  • Cinnamon stripe over eye
  • Long down-curved bill
  • Long tail

Sexes similar


South America: found from south-eastern Colombia to southern Venezuela, the Guianas, Ecuador, Peru, northern Bolivia and eastern Amazonian Brazil.


This is a monotypic species[1].


Swamps and lowland moist forests to 700m.



The diet includes invertebrates and insects.


The nest is built in a tree cavity or a burrow in an earth bank. Both sexes incubate the eggs and rear the young.
