Nikon Travelite EX 10x25 CF - why the third strap mounting point? (1 Viewer)

Just bought these Travelites to try as pocket binoculars. Why do they have a third strap mounting point on the inner side of the left barrel?IMG_0617r.jpg

The mounting points aren't really in a good spot anyway, should be further towards the side of each barrel. As they are, the binoculars hang at a 45 degree angle, so the ends dig into your chest. The longer you have the straps, the more they dig in.

My Nikon Monarch 8x42s hang at a 20 degree angle, but I've never noticed them digging in. Maybe being longer helps them sit flat.

There's a bit of Japanese in the product guide that translates

Application of strap eyelet 2*

Please attach and use a hand strap (commercially available) here.

Attaching a strap with a hook clip or connector buckle can be used to prevent the binoculars from shaking.
In addition, please feel free to use it with your own ideas.

So more central for hand strap. I guess harness, too, maybe.
Maybe the more-central position helps 'bracing' vs shake.
See also "string tripod". A binocular manufacturer used to make similar. Military? Zeiss? British? Sniper scope? Knee brace?
