The Nikon D3 FX Format Camera/

Nikons first ever FX format camera enables photographers who work under extreme conditions to stay ahead of the game. The D3 features a highly sensitive 12.1 megapixel CMOS sensor that boasts an extendable ISO range of 200 to 6400, and its Kevlar/carbon fiber-composite shutter and EXPEED image processing engine enable it to shoot at a staggering 9 fps (11 fps in DX Crop mode). The advanced Scene Recognition System delivers superior exposures and is supported by Nikons next-generation 51-point AF system, which offers broad coverage and high sensitivity in low light. Selectable Picture Controls streamline in-camera image processing, saving time in post-production, and a high definition 3-inch LCD screen supports two Live View modes plus an HDMI video output. Protected by a tough, environmentally-sealed magnesium alloy body, the D3 sets the benchmark for professional action photography.

Well I started this and have now been using a D3 for some time. My original report was deleted so I hope this follows the desired format. The main advantage of this camera for bird photography is the speed and accuracy of the autofocus. I have mine set to 21 points, not the 51 available and this setting is perfect for my photography. I have a 1000 mm f11 Reflex Nikkor which I have been able to set in the non-cpu lens section of the menu so that it brings in all my preferred setting for that lens at the touch of a button so to speak. The full viewfinder is bright with a clear display of settings. For tripod work the Live View is a great help particularly with the large back screen. The camera is rugged, actually it is built like a tank so no problems for those who like rough terrain. All I can say is go to a good dealer and put your hands on it - you know that you have a tool that will not let you down.
