The ally focus wheel on my Genesis always feels colder than any plastic, have you checked this? A hot needle tip will melt a tiny hole in plastic but won't do anything with ally.

I have used B&W filters on all of my Canon...

I have used B&W filters on all of my Canon photographic lenses for years. IMHO they are alpha products and I can't see any reason why they would not serve well when fitted to binoculars.
