    Yep, red kite. There is a release site in the southeast somewhere I believe. Is that where this was taken?

    Saw quite a few on a trip to Nova Scotia Sept 2011 as would be expected, but the most recent lifers seen in Britain would be pallid harrier in ayrshire and European white fronted goose, both at the back end of 2011.

    Which book?

    +1 for the "black Collins", it really is the best and is all you need to bird Europe. However, RSPB do a few more localized books of Britain&Ireland / Scotland but are the same size - 200 odd A5 pages at one bird per page. Worth a look too is the Mitchell Beasley. Then there's mammals...

    Western Scotland birding

    I regularly see the whoopers and some pinks in the fields between the M8, Inchinnan and Glasgow Airport. Not easy to count them from my motorbike though.

    Hi all, don't know why I haven't looked for birdwatching forums before now as I've been birding for more than 15 years, am an active member of a local birding Group, and have been using photography and motorcycling forums for years. Anyway, I'm here now, so the coffees on me. :)
